New KidDesktop Features Welcomes Children to YouTube World

Enhancements Provide Safe Online Video Preschool Sharing Community

Falls Church, Va. (Oct. 14, 2008) - Giving preschoolers a forum to participate in the YouTube world, KidDesktop™, a simple, customizable and kid-friendly Windows™ desktop alternative, today announced a new YouTube playlist capability. The new feature allows children and their families to explore YouTube in a controlled and safe environment directly on the KidDesktop platform.

“This is an exciting new feature as it welcomes preschoolers to the YouTube world in a safe manner,” said Brittanie Werbel, co-founder of KidDesktop. “Since most kids enjoy watching and learning from videos, we wanted to enhance KidDesktop by implementing a YouTube social community where parents can browse, share, rename and recommend age-appropriate videos for their children to watch.”

Using KDBuilder, the configurable platform to customize the child's desktop, parents have full control to select appropriate YouTube videos, which then can be accessed by their children via KidDesktop. Children do not have free access to browse YouTube.

The main features of the new YouTube playlist include:

  • Popular Videos - Parents can select from a list of the most current popular childrens' videos preloaded on KDBuilder or browse YouTube to select additional videos when configuring their child's playlist.
  • Sharing Community - Parents are able to share and recommend preschool appropriate videos with other parents in the KidDesktop community.
  • Name that Video - Parents can choose an appropriate name for each video so their children can better identify which video they want to watch.
